Agua Milpa

Agua Milpa is your choice if you are looking for Bass Action! The lake is nestled in the mountains of rural Nyarit State of old Mexico. This beautiful lake has been delighting Bass Anglers for over 5 years. It is not uncommon to catch one hundred and fifty Bass a day per boat. Average fish is well over four pounds, with the largest bass caught so far over twelve pounds. Those babies are growing!

Agua Milpa was stocked in 1992 with Florida strain large-mouth Bass by Bill Chapman Sr himself. (Bill Chapman Sr of Chapman-Balderrama - the leader in Bass fishing resorts in the Western Hemisphere) No one had fished these pristine waters until "Wild Bill" Skinner, in a trial period in March of 1995.

There are over 330 miles of Bass fishing shore line - fishing that will astound you. The lake has a maximum depth of 605 feet and an elevation of 3400 feet above sea level.

After leaving the lodge, you can fish your way south 65 miles on the Santiago River arm of the lake, or forty miles east on the Rio Chico. There is also a huge area of aroyo country for approximately 30 miles north of the lodge that's literally full of bass. This is one of the best post-spawn bass fishing areas on earth, and it's not uncommon to catch 400 bass per day per boat during the months of April, May and June. In fact, the lake record for two fisherman in one boat in one day stands at 628 bass! Sounds unbelievable? Well it's true, and it could happen to you, but you have to be there to have that chance!

Four beautiful waterfalls cascade into this lake. They run all year round and provide a stunning backdrop to the amazing fishing. Also clustered in the hills are villages of the historic Huichol Indians. Three rivers feed this lake and keep the water level constant, which is different than any other bass lake in Mexico. The Santiago River is one of the largest in all of Mexico.

We practice catch and release on all Bass and we seriously believe Agua Milpa was overstocked in the beginning. Nevertheless a bass that is alive is a bass that's growing. Consequently, because of this program there are lots of 4-8 lb Bass, with the largest being caught so far is 12lb 8oz! The lake record will change on a regular basis because the Bass are growing at a rate of 2 lbs a year! Here's your chance to get into the record books! Agua Milpa is a serious contender as one of the best bass lakes in the world.

While you are enjoying scenery and catching bass until your arms nearly fall off, you will be fishing in the comfort of eighteen-foot V-bottom boats with 48 HP Yamaha outboards and Minn Kota trolling motors. These boats are outfitted with swivel seats, Coastguard-approved life jackets, dual batteries and dual gas tanks. Your seasoned professional local guide sits in the rear out of the way so that you will have plenty of room to Hammer the Hawgs in this world class bass factory. These guides know Agua Milpa like the back of their hand, and I will assure you that they will do everything in their power to put you on the fish. They also untangle your bird nests, your hangups and show you what lures and presentation work best on the day and in the area you are fishing.
